Toby Beard in Vanslag - It’s a good tradition by now: Toby Beard in Vanslag. At least once a year, around this time and so last Friday Toby was in Vanslag again. It was Toby Beard‘s fourth time and my second time (seeing her before in 2014). I missed her first visit here and last year I couldn’t make it visiting Barcelona at the time.

Toby brings a huge amount of spirit and positive energy with her together with a great band. Two years ago, Toby brought a saxophone-player and this time a violinist. A slight change to the sound, but still incredibly energetic.

Also this time Toby had her mother with her on tour so she had to be on het best behaviour (well… to some degree at least). The audience cheered the band on to greater heights, lots of energy in the church tonight and the sound was again fantastic. Very different from a regular venue and when it’s right, it’s right!

It wasn’t all full speed ahead; the band could well tone it down for some more intimate songs and the band-members all had their moments to shine. But the most memorable moments were the start of the second set, with the band playing acoustically on a table in the middle of the venue, in front of a huge Warsteiner mural, and the encore that they played on the edge of the stage.

Simply a terrific concert once again at the Vanslag venue and Roots on the Road have already mentioned Toby will return again. But then they make a terrific match so that was to be expected :)
